Last Updated: 10 August 2026
The information provided in these Terms and Conditions is intended for general informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.
1. Acceptance of These Terms
These Terms and Conditions govern your access to and use of the website cardozo-filmsociety.com and your participation in events organized by the Cardozo Film Society. By accessing the site, subscribing to our communications, registering for an event, or attending a screening, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site or attend our events.
2. Who We Are
The Cardozo Film Society is a student organization at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, 55 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10003. It is chartered by the Student Bar Association and operates within Yeshiva University.
The Film Society is not a separate legal entity, is not incorporated, and does not hold independent tax status. Views, statements, programming choices and materials published by the Film Society are those of its student board and members alone. They do not represent the views or positions of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, or their faculty, staff or administration.
3. No Legal Advice
The Film Society is a student cultural organization. Nothing on this site, and nothing said at our events, panels or discussions, constitutes legal advice or creates an attorney-client relationship. Our speakers, guests and board members do not act as your counsel. Content relating to copyright, licensing, entertainment law or any other legal subject is presented for educational and cultural purposes only. Consult a licensed attorney for advice on your own situation.
4. Eligibility
This site is not directed at, and is not intended for, individuals under the age of 13. Attendance at events held on the Cardozo campus is subject to the access rules of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and Yeshiva University, which may restrict entry to students, faculty, staff and their invited guests.
5. Use of the Site
You agree to use this site lawfully and not to interfere with or disrupt the site, its servers or its security features; attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the site or to any account; use automated systems to scrape, harvest or collect data from the site; submit false, misleading, unlawful, defamatory, harassing or infringing content through any form on the site; or use the site or any content on it for commercial purposes without our prior written permission.
We may suspend or terminate access to the site, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Our content. The Cardozo Film Society name, logo, visual identity, original text, photographs of our events, and the design of this site are owned by the Film Society or used with permission. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify or use them for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.
6.2 Third-party content. Film titles, stills, posters, trailers, artwork and other materials relating to the films we program remain the property of their respective rights holders. They appear on this site solely to identify and describe the works we screen and discuss, and their appearance implies no ownership claim, endorsement or affiliation.
6.3 Screening rights. Films are presented under licences, permissions or exemptions obtained for the specific screening in question. Those rights extend only to the screening itself. They do not transfer any right to attendees, and they do not permit any further use of the work.
7. Events and Screenings
7.1 Free admission. Film Society screenings and events are free of charge. We do not sell tickets and do not charge admission.
7.2 Registration and capacity. Registering or expressing interest in an event does not guarantee admission. Rooms have fixed capacity and entry is on a first-come basis unless stated otherwise. We may limit attendance where a licence or a school policy requires it.
7.3 No recording. You may not film, photograph, screen-record, stream, or otherwise capture or retransmit any film, in whole or in part, at any Film Society event. You may not capture or share a guest speaker's presentation without their express consent. This restriction is a condition of the licences under which we present films, and of our agreements with guests.
7.4 Photography at events. We may photograph or film our events for archival and promotional purposes, including on our website and social media. If you do not wish to appear, tell a board member at the event and we will accommodate you.
7.5 Conduct. We may refuse entry to, or ask to leave, any person who disrupts an event, behaves in a manner that is unsafe, harassing or discriminatory, or breaches these Terms or the policies of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
7.6 Changes and cancellation. Programming, dates, times, rooms, guests and titles may change or be cancelled without notice, including where a licence, a venue booking or a speaker's availability falls through. Where possible we will announce changes on this site and on our communication channels.
8. Submissions and Communications
Information you submit through our contact form, newsletter signup or event registration must be accurate and must be your own or submitted with authority. By subscribing you consent to receive communications from the Film Society. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by writing to us.
If you send us suggestions, feedback or ideas for programming, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual right to use them without obligation or compensation, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
This site may link to third-party websites and uses third-party services, including its hosting platform. We do not control those sites and services and are not responsible for their content, practices, availability or terms. Following a link is at your own risk.
10. Disclaimer

We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that any information on it is current.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither the Cardozo Film Society nor its board members, officers, members or volunteers shall be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or in connection with your use of this site or your attendance at our events. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Cardozo Film Society and its board members, officers, members and volunteers from any claim, demand, loss or expense arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the site, or your conduct at our events.
13. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the Last Updated date above will be revised. Your continued use of the site or attendance at our events after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of this site shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
16. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision shall be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
