This Privacy Policy describes how the Cardozo Film Society ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, discloses and otherwise processes personal information obtained through the website
cardozo-filmsociety.com and in connection with our events.


The Cardozo Film Society is a student organization at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, 55 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10003. It is not a separate legal entity and does not speak for the law school or for Yeshiva University.

By accessing or using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you give us. First and last name, email address, and phone number, submitted through our newsletter signup, contact form, event registration, or direct correspondence with us, together with any content you choose to include in a message to us.

2.2 Information collected automatically. IP address, browser type and version, device and operating system information, pages visited, time spent on the site, interaction data, and referring URLs.

2.3 Event media. Photographs and video recorded at our events, which may include images of attendees.

3. How We Collect Information

Directly from you, when you complete a form on the site, register for an event, subscribe to our newsletter, or contact us. Automatically, through cookies, analytics and similar technologies operated by our website platform. And at our events, through photography and video recorded for archival and promotional purposes.

4. Why We Collect It

To manage and operate the Film Society and its programming. To process event registrations and manage attendance. To send you event announcements, newsletters and updates you have subscribed to. To respond to your questions, partnership enquiries and other correspondence. To understand how the site is used and improve it. To maintain the security and integrity of the site. And to comply with applicable law and with the policies of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and Yeshiva University.

5. Use, Storage and Disclosure

5.1 Use. We use personal information solely for the purposes described in this Policy and in accordance with applicable law.

5.2 Storage. Information is stored on servers operated by our website platform provider, Wix.com Ltd., and on accounts held by the Film Society, including its email and cloud storage accounts. Access is limited to board members who need it in order to run the organization.

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy. Mailing list data is retained until you unsubscribe. Event registration data is retained for the academic year in which the event took place and for reporting to the school, after which it is deleted or aggregated.

5.3 Disclosure. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising purposes.

We may share information with service providers who operate the site and our communications tools, including Wix.com Ltd., acting on our instructions; with the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and Yeshiva University, where attendance figures or reporting are required for room bookings, budgets or post-event forms, limited where possible to aggregate numbers rather than names; with co-hosting student organizations or partners, only where you have registered for a jointly organized event and only to the extent needed to run it; and with legal authorities, where required by law or to protect our rights, safety or property.

6. Communications

We contact subscribers about upcoming screenings, events and Film Society news. You may opt out at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by writing to cardozofilmsociety@gmail.com. Opting out of marketing communications does not prevent us from replying to a message you send us.

8. Event Photography

We photograph and film our events. These images may appear on this website, on our social media accounts, and in materials documenting the club's activity. If you do not wish to appear, tell a board member at the event and we will accommodate you. If an image of you has already been published and you want it removed, write to us and we will remove it.

Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, provide a copy of it, correct information that is inaccurate, delete it, or stop sending you communications. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal, and may mean we can no longer send you event information.

This site is not intended for individuals under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
